Michèle Welborn's musical life began in the folk clubs of Huddersfield and the surrounding towns, where she learnt the art of holding an audience captive (but not tuning a guitar....!)
After 'Jigby', and moving back to the south, she discovered song-writing skills, and fellow musicians who encouraged and collaborated with her in various line-ups. Now, as well as fronting 'The Michèle Welborn Band', she plays in 'The Trio: Welborn, Martin and Jewell', 'The Other Trio' with Steve McDaniel and Dave Cole, and works with singer/guitarist Roddy Clenaghan.
Apart from gigs, in sessions Michèle visits her traditional roots, or plays her own material. If she's not singing unaccompanied, she'll be using her DADGAD-tuned Fylde....in her own inimitable way, and still struggling with the tuning...oh, and still captivating the audience...
A new project, put together especially for 'stonylive!' in 2005, is: 'Welborn, Woodward and Merryweather'. Cathy Woodward and Jude Merryweather (with Paul Baker on keyboard/guitar/piano-accordian and Colin Kempster on bass/guitar) join Michèle to sing and perform their own material along with some well-chosen and unexpected covers, from Aerosmith to Eliza Carthy, and George Bacon to Jake Thackery. They're pieces aimed to make the audience laugh, cry or blush, and tickets for 'The 3 Women and 2 Men Do It Again!!' evening on Friday 16th June 2006 are already selling.....
(And yes, the next solo album, 'A Touch Of Snow', IS on its way! The material is written, musicians have given their promises....)
